Figure Reviews:
French Chasseurs by Battle Honours

I'm not optimistic Tony Barton will get around to completing the AB Revolutionary Wars (1796-03) figures he started... there's such a l-o-n-g way to go. In that my main interest are the years between 1789-1801, I looked around for alternatives and ordered some 15 mm Battle Honors mounted Chasseurs.

They are delightful little figures. While not packing the detail of the 18mm's, these true 15's still bear the Barton mark of balance and accuracy. They are less time consuming to paint and produce an effective result. On the Spanner/Yank scale, I would give these a "7.5"... not the equal of their big brothers, but certainly in the family. The downside for those in the U.S.: I placed an order with Battle Honors USA which only offers them as "special orders". It may take several weeks (mine arrived in two) and the charge is $30.00 USD for a bag of 100 infantry. Not only are they pricey, but bags are not divided into the common positions of march attack, advancing, skirmishing, etc.. The latter are simply lumped together and you get what you get.

Needless to say, this is no way to build a miniature army and I ended flirting with what could have developed into an interesting relationship. The owner was the first to offer it is an unfortunate situation, but the demand isn't there for Revolutionary period figures. I'm not so sure. I suggest those interested in wargaming Novi, Marengo, Castiglione, and the other battles of this period (far more amenable to scaling issues), write or call Battle Honors and let them know that you are interested and would liked them regularly stocked. If the availability, selection and pricing issues are addressed, I'll definitely be back for a second look.
