Migration Chart of Austrian Dragoon & Chevauxleger Organization and Uniforms, 1792-1801

Migration Chart of Austrian Kuirassiere & Karabinier Organization and Uniforms, 1792-1801

by Michael MacGillivray

24 February 2001

The following charts are meant to help those studying the Austrian cavalry during a period of rapid changes in organization and structure. The charts illustrates the migration of units. In the case of the dragoons and chevauxlegers, it shows the rather confusing change to "light dragoon" designations in 1798, and their re-classification, again, into dragoon and chevauxlegers units in '01. The lists below are of inhaber names from 1792 through 1801.

Uniform coat and facing colors are provided in each regimental box. The information has been drawn from the annual Schematismus der kaiser.-koenigl. almanacs, and Wrede's Geschichte der k.k. Wehrmacht, vols. 1&2 (5 vols.,Vienna, c.1898-1903).

I wish to thank Dave Hollins for his help in providing me with needed information.
