THE BOOK:
This book is something in between a reprint and a second edition. The rules themselves remain unchanged from the original. Indeed, a great deal of the rules are reproduced verbatim. However, the ancillary portions of the book have been expanded, and the simple black & white interior has been replaced with the full color “eye-candy” style interior that digital printing has made affordable to the wargaming community.
As before a number of army lists are included:
- Early Royalists
- Early Parliamentarians
- Late Royalists
- The New Model Army
- Montrose Scots
- Scots Covenanters
There are three main new sections to the book. First, there is an extensive section on unit flags. In addition to color flags you can scan and print, there are blank “outline” flags you can use to make your own. A “how to” section is included. Second, there is a detailed painting guide from Kevin Dallimore.
Finally, there is a brief chapter on using the rules for the Thirty Years War, and it includes the following army lists:
- Imperialist
- Swedish
- Polish
- Elizabethan English
- Pirates & Buccaneers
- Marlburian French & Allies 1701-14
- Marlburian British & Allies 1701-14
