First Impressions: The Musket figures made a positive impression right away. The horses are pretty good, with some good equipment detail. The riders have a little equipment to break up the field of blue and gray, and are nicely done.

Dem Bones - The Anatomy: It is hard to tell with seated figures - at least for me - but I thi nk thi s rid er’ s leg s are a bit long. It’s not very noticeable once painted, but close up is visible. Otherwise his parts all look to be the right size in the right place at the right time! His face is nice, though I left off the mustache for some reason. The horse’s rump likewise looks a bit lean, but then perhaps forage has been hard to find this campaign...

Everybody Vogue: There are a lot of map-reading officers in my small ACW collection. This one is clearly studying the map. If that’s what you want your officers doing, he looks relaxed and natural. The horse looks good, too. Clearly standing still, and yet the advancing rear leg helps give the pose some energy.

Do Those Buttons Read USA or USB? The detail is moderate, but crisp, and easy to paint. There are no buttons or ties on equipment, but the basic shapes are there. The tack is nothing fancy and is moderately raised.

The sword is nicely details and easy to pick out; the map nice and flat (I drew a map on mine with fine point markers - and no, I didn’t base it on a real map).

The Reserves: Other Figures

The horse’s pose here is pretty good, but the head looks a bit large and the rump a bit small (see below). Still, a sturdy in contrast with the more cerebral Union officer above.
