First Impressions: Horse, I dub thee Snake-head. Never seen a horse bend like that! This is another one-piece casting. I’m first struck by the face - very nice, good beard. The billowy coat is a bit plain, but what can you do, its a coat. An unusual pose, riding along the front of your unit, encouraging your men.
Dem Bones - The Anatomy: He has very small feet, but otherwise this officer is built according to the human scale. The hands are the right size. From this side the coat makes the torso look even bigger than it really is.
The horse’s rear legs are taking the corners awfully tight, and I don’t think that front leg should bend like that at the ankle.
Everybody Vogue: This is not a pose that will look natural on the table much of the time, but just prior to a charge, it will be perfect. It’s nice to see something other than reading a map or waving a hat.
The horse’s gait is close enough, but the forward bending ankles make the profile odd.
Do Those Buttons Read USA or USB? It’s hard to judge detail on a long coat and no other equipment. Mostly of the equipage is plain, easily painted, and in strong relief. It would have been nice to do more with the coat tail - right now it’s just a big pillow of gray. And a bedroll or pistols would add some interest, I think.
