First Impressions: Unfortunately I didn’t look closely enough at this photo before I finished the figure. But like their infantry, this is a nicely sculpted figure, with high-contrast details. This particular figure, however, looks as if his arms will fall off at any moment - that joint just ain’t natural.
Dem Bones - The Anatomy: This is a tall and lanky officer. His torso looks too tall in comparison to his legs, and to the horse. Otherwise the anatomy is sound.
As for the horse, it is passable, but not as good as the soldiers in the line. The leg j o i n ts are overstated - he looks like he’s carrying tennis balls under his skin. The legs look too short as well. Or is it the head that is too large? In any event, it’s a subtle impression, but it just “don’t look right to me.”
Everybody Vogue: The rider’s pose is fine (after all, how exciting can a man sitting on a horse be?) and the horse’s gait is not bad at all.
Do Those Buttons Read USA or USB? There is a curious detail I have not had time to research. Running down his right sleeve is a raised design - could be lace or piping. But it is lacking on his left. If you know what this might be, please e-mail me.
Otherwise the details are crisp and easy to see. The buttons are inscribed, not raised, and the folds in the clothes pretty deep (relatively).
