Well, now, you’re a growing lad, ain’t ya? This figure, in contrast with, say, the Battle Honors figure, shows why I started these kinds of reviews in the first place. Unlike the BH figure, this Reb measures a true 15 mm from boot sole to eye. And yet this figure is sculpted on such a larger frame as to almost dwarf the BH Yank. Even from a distance (I’m looking at them side by side from about 2 feet right now) the Donnington figure looks much larger.
Dem Bones - The Anatomy: The anatomy here looks good with perhaps one exception - the head may be a bit on the large size. If so, it is not by too much, so perhaps its just me. The face is distinct, if not overly expressive, and easy to get at with the brush (not always the case with this pose).
Everybody Vogue: You would think with a pose like firing, there would not be much to talk about, but you would be wrong. Lined up side by side different versions of this same pose can look quite strikingly different. This particular pose is strong - Johnny Reb here is balanced and yet aggressive.
Do Those Buttons Read USA or USB? I have one minor criticism - the canteen strap is missing. The blue canteen is just hovering above the haversack, like it’s trying to make a crop circle. Easily fixed if you can paint in a straight line, of course. Otherwise the figure is of moderate detail. Folds in the cloth tend to be a bit subtle, and the musket is very rectangular. I found him easy to paint overall.
