In 15 mm figures there is a definite limit to what can be accomplished in sculpting the face. A simple martial expression, some basic facial hair, or perhaps the position of the head can affect the overall impression of the pose. But otherwise it is simply not large enough to admit of much personality. This Roundway figure is an exception. For whatever reason, I cannot escape the idea that this figure is in part a portrait of John Cleese (the Fawlty Towers “Basil” with his mustache). This does not bode well for his commanding officer...
Although the proportions are better, this figure has a very strong Essex style (or does Essex have a Roundway style?). Details are kept to a minimum, with he “less-is-more” approach. Folds in the uniform are minimal, straps lie flat and run straight. This is not my taste, but I have to say in this case it produces a very nice figure. With regular surfaces it is quick to paint as well as enjoyable.
This is not to say it is devoid of detail - all the pertinent touches which identify a French fusilier are here. The cuff flaps have buttons, for example. But the musket is fairly simple, even stylized. The pack is square with prominent ties for easy painting.
The aesthetic here may not appeal to you, but it will certainly not disgrace your army.
